Young People's Film Festival 15 - 18 May 2009 After months of hard work and frenetic preparation, and without any arts or regional funding, Saffron Screen was able to celebrate its third birthday with its first Young People’s Film Festival. The event, over one weekend in May, was a great success, and has been followed by glowing praise and positive feedback: “Excellent in every respect. Covered every age group, please do it again”, “Would recommend to friends, loved the puppet making”, “Fun for all the family”, “Wish this was on every week!” We kicked off on the Friday evening with the highly-acclaimed documentary In the Hands of the Gods which was attended by the two charismatic director brothers: Gabe and Benjamin Turner. They provided entertaining and interesting anecdotes in the Q&A session after the screening. “The Turner brothers were excellent in the interview. Thought the film was great as well.” We followed this on the Saturday with sold out workshops run by professionals, in make up in film, and shadow puppetry. Feature screenings were accompanied by award winning shorts. Between films, activities in the marquee kept little hands busy, and refreshments provided welcome respite for parents and carers. “We would love to attend the workshop again!”, “It was great. Mum & sister thought show great.”, “Brilliant films and fantastic activities.” Photographs by Catchlight Art Photography www.catchlightphotographers.co.uk and www.catchlightcommercial.com In the Hands of the Gods directors, Gabe & Ben Turner
