Ol Parker and Charles Gant Visit Saffron Screen

A sell-out and enthusiastic crowd welcomed scriptwriter Ol Parker to Saffron Screen on Friday 30 March to present his film THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL. Ol stayed on after the film for a Q&A session with the audience hosted by Heat magazine film editor and Guardian columnist, Charles Gant.

He finished his schooling elsewhere before returning to the area to read English at Clare College, Cambridge. He was delighted to return to Saffron Walden and said, ‘It is an enormous thrill to bring this film back home.’ Ol is married to actress Thandie Newton who joined her husband at the cinema on Friday night.

Charles Gant, who has been a guest of Saffron Screen in the past, began the Q&A session by asking Ol about working on the film and adapting a book for the big screen. Ol was on set in India throughout the filming of this movie and provided some funny anecdotes about the director JohnCharles Gant and Ol Parker at Saffron Screen 30 March 2012 2 Madden and the ensemble cast of actors including Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith and Tom Wilkinson. Charles also asked Ol how he felt about writing comedy to which he replied, ‘It is very difficult to get right, but there is nothing better than hearing people laugh.’

The cinema’s current screenings of THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL are sold out, but the film will be coming back to Saffron Screen in June.

Saffron Screen’s next guest speaker is director Simon Curtis who will be presenting his film MY WEEK WITH MARILYN at 8pm on Saturday 21 April. The Q&A session will be hosted by Heidi Thomas, scriptwriter Charles Gant and Ol Parker with Audience at Saffron Screen 30 March 2012of Call the Midwife and Cranford (some episodes of which were directed by Simon Curtis). Tickets are available through www.saffronscreen.com, the Tourist Information Centre and the cinema box office.
