Tickets £10 Saffron Screen and Harts Events have come together to invite Mark Kermode, the renowned film critic, to Words in Walden with his no-holds-barred account of all that is great and all that is terrible about cinema. He is outspoken, opinionated and hilariously funny; he believes that The Exorcist is the greatest movie ever made; and that the Pirates of the Caribbean films should be buried in a very deep hole. If blockbusters can make a staggering amount of money no matter how bad they are, would it really be that hard to make a good one? How can 3-D be the future of cinema when it has been giving audiences headaches for over a hundred years? Why pay to watch films in cinemas which don’t have a projectionist but do have a fast food stand? And, in a world in which Sex and the City 2 was a hit, what the hell are film critics for? Broadcaster and writer Mark Kermode asks: ‘What’s wrong with the modern movie business – and how can we make it right?’ The Good, The Bad and the Multiplex will be loved by Mark Kermode’s legions of fans who tune in to hear him with Simon Mayo on BBC Radio 5 Live, and will win over a whole new generation of film buffs. |
